BONK and Korean K9 Rescue Set Guinness World Record, Dogs Ready for Adoption

In a heartwarming initiative, blockchain project BONK and Korean K9 Rescue (KK9R) have made headlines by setting a new Guinness World Record for the “Most Dogs Walked Simultaneously by an Individual.” The event, which took place during Korean Blockchain Week on September 5, 2024, saw a BONK core contributor walk 38 rescued dogs at Chungbuk National University, just outside Seoul. This feat surpassed the previous record of 36 dogs set six years ago.

Champion Dogs Ready for Adoption

All of the dogs involved in the record-breaking event were rescued locally from South Korea, having been saved from conditions of mistreatment, neglect, and abuse. The collaboration between BONK, a meme coin project, and Korean K9 Rescue, a New York-based animal rescue organization, aimed to raise awareness around the adoption of rescued dogs and promote animal protection globally. The Seoul arm of KK9R played a crucial role in organizing the event.

Since the record was set, ten dogs have been adopted, with four of them already in their new homes and six en route to the United States. The funds raised during the event have facilitated these adoptions, helping the dogs find loving families. According to BONK, these “record-breaking dogs” are not only champions but also loving companions now ready for their forever homes. Details about the adoptable dogs can be found on Korean K9 Rescue’s website.

A Mission Beyond Records

The event was not just about breaking records, but also about making a meaningful difference. The joint effort of BONK and KK9R aimed to raise awareness about the importance of dog adoption and the tireless work of organizations like KK9R in finding homes for dogs in need. The campaign sought to challenge outdated perceptions and stigmas surrounding dog culture in South Korea, advocating for more compassion and inclusivity.

During the event, crypto enthusiasts, animal lovers, and local community members came together to support this noble cause, highlighting the community-driven spirit that BONK promotes.

A Broader Impact on Blockchain and Animal Welfare

In addition to the record-breaking walk, BONK hosted various activities throughout Korean Blockchain Week, focusing on engaging the local community and fostering meaningful connections. These events were designed to bring attention to both animal welfare and the importance of building a strong, values-based blockchain community. As a result, BONK’s efforts are seen as an attempt to contribute positively to real-world issues while maintaining its commitment to community-building in the crypto space.

Kadense Pengu, a core contributor to BONK, reflected on the project’s mission, stating, “In a space where everyone is trying to outdo each other with grand parties and exclusive events, we did what we do best: putting our community and values first.” Pengu added, “We’re thrilled to be using our platform to make a meaningful difference while also having fun and breaking a record in the process.”

Through this initiative, BONK and Korean K9 Rescue have not only set a new world record but also made significant strides in promoting animal welfare and adoption awareness—proving that the crypto world can have a positive impact on real-world causes.
