Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose a $100,000 fee on H-1B visas, a move that could significantly impact the tech and outsourcing industries if implemented during a future administration.
The proposal, revealed during a campaign rally, is aimed at encouraging companies to hire American workers and reduce reliance on foreign talent. Trump argued that the current H-1B system has been “abused by corporations” to undercut U.S. wages and said a steep fee would disincentivize excessive use of the visa program.
Tech industry leaders have expressed concern that such a measure could make it harder for U.S. companies to attract skilled workers in fields like software engineering, AI development, and blockchain technology, areas where demand for talent already outpaces domestic supply.
