$305 Million Liquidated from Crypto Market in Just 4 Hours Amid High Volatility

In another wave of high volatility, the cryptocurrency market has seen over $305 million in liquidations within just four hours, shaking traders and raising fresh concerns over leverage-driven market instability.

According to data from Coinglass and other analytics platforms, both long and short positions were decimated, though long positions accounted for over 70% of the wiped-out positions. The wipeout has impacted major digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), as well as smaller altcoins.

Liquidation Snapshot (Past 4 Hours)

Asset Liquidated Amount Price Impact
Bitcoin ~$145M Dropped to ~$110,400
Ethereum ~$95M Fell to ~$3,570
Others ~$65M Altcoins down 6–12%

“We’re seeing cascading liquidations from over-leveraged traders. This is a harsh reminder of the risk in a market that’s still finding its footing,” said Tanvir Hossain, analyst at CentBit.Online.

What Caused the Selloff?

Several factors likely contributed:

  1. Whale Movements: Large wallets were seen transferring BTC and ETH to exchanges, triggering concerns of big sell-offs.

  2. Regulatory Anxiety: The U.S. Congress recently failed to pass key crypto legislation, adding to global uncertainty.

  3. Macro Tensions: Speculation about upcoming interest rate hikes and weak tech earnings rattled all risk-on markets, including crypto.

 Market Sentiment

  • Fear & Greed Index: Down from 58 to 42 (Neutral → Fear)

  • Derivatives Funding Rates: Turned negative across multiple exchanges, suggesting bearish sentiment

Analysts warn that if Bitcoin dips below the $108,000 support zone, further liquidations may follow, potentially pushing ETH below $3,400.
