Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has donated 10 million baht ($292,000) to support wildlife conservation efforts at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand. The contribution will specifically sponsor Moo Deng, a pygmy hippo, and aid the zoo’s wildlife sponsorship project.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo announced the donation on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude for Buterin’s generous gesture. Narongwit Chotchoy, the zoo’s director, commended Buterin for his dedication to global environmental and educational initiatives.
The donation will not only enhance Moo Deng’s habitat but also fund the construction of an educational center, aimed at teaching visitors about the unique characteristics of pygmy hippos. The zoo also seeks to dispel misconceptions about the species, emphasizing that unlike their larger relatives, pygmy hippos are smaller, passive, nocturnal, and generally avoid human interaction.
