Bitmain, a leading manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining equipment, has publicly refuted any involvement in an ongoing supply chain investigation following claims that restricted TSMC chips were found in Huawei’s AI processors.
According to Bitmain, the company exclusively produces cryptocurrency mining rigs and has no affiliation with the recent allegations linking it to the supply of TSMC chips identified in Huawei’s hardware.
“Bitmain specializes in cryptocurrency mining rigs and is not connected to the supply chain investigation recently reported by the media,” the company stated. Bitmain emphasized that any reports suggesting otherwise are “false and baseless,” reserving the right to pursue legal action against outlets spreading misinformation.
Bitmain Affirms Supply Chain Independence
Recent reports, including those by Reuters, noted that TSMC had halted shipments to the Chinese chip designer Sophgo, a Bitmain affiliate, following the discovery of one of its chips in Huawei’s Ascend 910B AI processor. Upon learning of this, TSMC notified U.S. authorities due to export restrictions involving Huawei.
Sophgo, however, has asserted its compliance with legal regulations and stated it has no direct business with Huawei. In response, Sophgo provided a report to TSMC to clarify its independent status.

TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, confirmed that it ceased supplying Huawei as of mid-September 2020 to comply with U.S. export restrictions. This investigation further highlights the complexities and regulatory sensitivities within the global semiconductor supply chain.
