Craig Wright Files Lawsuit Against Bitcoin Core Developers, Claims Bitcoin SV is the True Bitcoin

Australian scientist Craig Wright has once again taken legal action, this time in London’s High Court of Chancery, filing a lawsuit against Bitcoin Core developers. In a Friday report by Forbes, Wright asserts that Bitcoin SV (BSV)—his version of Bitcoin—is the genuine cryptocurrency, claiming that the original vision of Satoshi Nakamoto has been distorted by modifications such as SegWit and Taproot introduced by Bitcoin Core.

Wright’s history of controversial claims within the cryptocurrency community continues to draw attention, especially given past rulings in the UK that dismissed his claims of being Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite losing those cases, Wright remains determined to pursue legal action, now seeking to establish Bitcoin SV as the legitimate version of Bitcoin.

Wright’s Lawsuit and Allegations

In his latest legal maneuver, Wright argues that Bitcoin SV preserves Nakamoto’s original vision, while Bitcoin Core’s developers have undermined it with technical changes that, according to Wright, tarnish the reputation and market position of Bitcoin SV. He is seeking an astronomical £911 billion in damages, attributing this sum to the significant price disparity between Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin SV (BSV).

Wright’s lawsuit is centered on the claim that the adoption of SegWit and Taproot has taken Bitcoin away from its foundational design, which he contends Bitcoin SV has maintained.

Despite previous legal losses, including a UK court ruling that denied him as the author of the Bitcoin White Paper, Wright continues his legal battle, aiming to reshape the narrative surrounding Bitcoin’s true origins.

Bitcoin SV Price Rises Amid Lawsuit

Following news of the lawsuit, Bitcoin SV’s price saw a modest rise of 3%, reaching $51.69, despite a 25% decrease in trading volume to $38.33 million. Additionally, BSV futures open interest increased by 5% to $22.21 million.

While these price movements suggest a short-term boost for Bitcoin SV, skepticism remains high within the broader crypto community. Critics like Hodlonaut, who previously won a defamation case against Wright, continue to mock his legal claims. In a sarcastic jab, Hodlonaut quipped that “Wright might be using ChatGPT to craft his legal claims,” reflecting the community’s broader dismissal of Wright’s ongoing legal efforts.

Despite the controversy and ongoing legal battles, many in the crypto space continue to reject Wright’s assertions about Bitcoin’s true identity.
