Robinhood Expands to Bitcoin and Ether Futures, Adds New Trading Tools
Robinhood has announced plans to introduce Bitcoin and Ether futures trading, expanding its offerings beyond traditional assets like oil and the S&P 500. This move is part of a larger strategy to cater to a broader investor base, particularly those interested in more advanced trading options.
Bitcoin and Ether Futures Coming to Robinhood App
During its HOOD Summit on October 16, Robinhood revealed that Bitcoin and Ether futures will soon be available directly through its app. This follows the company’s earlier plans to list crypto futures for both U.S. and European markets.
JB Mackenzie, Robinhood's Vice President and General Manager of Futures and International, emphasized the platform’s unique approach, highlighting low fees and a user-friendly interface designed to make futures trading more accessible. Additionally, investors can benefit from the 60/40 tax rule, where 60% of gains are taxed as long-term capital gains, and enjoy almost 24-hour trading access.
Robinhood Legend: A New Desktop Platform for Active Traders
Alongside futures trading, Robinhood introduced Legend, its new desktop platform tailored for active traders. The browser-based platform offers up to eight customizable charts in a single window, including various chart types like candle and line charts, at no extra cost. Users can access technical indicators such as moving averages, Bollinger Bands, and drawing tools like trend lines and Fibonacci tools.
Legend also provides in-depth analysis tools, enabling traders to monitor assets, open orders, positions, and options contracts efficiently. The platform will roll out to eligible users in the coming months.
Index Options Coming to Robinhood
In addition to futures, Robinhood plans to launch index options trading, responding to demand from experienced traders. Similar to futures, these options will benefit from the 60/40 tax rule, offering a tax-efficient choice for investors.
The index options are cash-settled and follow a European-style approach, meaning there is no early assignment risk. Traders can make transactions up to expiration, providing greater flexibility. Robinhood will also keep costs competitive, with a contract fee of just $0.35 for Gold members and $0.50 for non-Gold members, excluding regulatory and exchange fees.
Robinhood Expanding Global Crypto Services
Robinhood recently launched crypto transfers in Europe, allowing users to deposit and withdraw over 20 cryptocurrencies as part of its global expansion of crypto services. With its new futures, index options, and advanced trading tools, Robinhood aims to position itself as a top choice for both beginner and experienced traders seeking a comprehensive platform.
