Google Search has quietly removed the feature that displayed price charts for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies directly in search results. However, users can still access these charts through Google Finance.
Over the weekend, crypto enthusiasts on X (formerly Twitter) noticed that searching for Bitcoin’s price no longer shows any charts. In contrast, price charts for traditional stocks remain visible. This change has sparked debates, with some in the crypto community viewing it as a positive sign, speculating that traditional financial institutions might be feeling threatened by the growing influence of cryptocurrencies.
Previous Crypto Chart Feature
Until recently, Google Search provided real-time or near-real-time price charts for leading cryptocurrencies, allowing users to quickly check Bitcoin prices without leaving the search engine. This feature was convenient for those monitoring cryptocurrency markets without needing to navigate to third-party platforms.
Bitcoin Search Volume Hits 1-Year Low
In a separate trend, global search volume for the term “Bitcoin” on Google dropped to a 1-year low as of the week of October 12, 2024. By the end of the week, interest fell to 33 on a scale of 100.
Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget Research, observed that the last time Bitcoin’s search interest was this low was in early February 2024, just before Bitcoin surged from $41,000 to $71,500 in six weeks. Lee emphasized that similar dips in search volume often present opportunities for strategic buying, as market stagnation could be followed by significant price rises.
He added, “Buying during periods when BTC search volumes are low, when public interest is scarce, tends to be a rational and more certain strategy.”
