McDonald’s Instagram Account Hacked to Promote Grimace Meme Coin
In a surprising turn of events, McDonald’s official Instagram account was hacked on Wednesday to promote a Solana-based Grimace meme coin. Grimace, a character from McDonaldland, became the unlikely face of a rug pull scam. The hackers altered the account’s profile, using offensive language and falsely claiming to have stolen $700,000 in Solana. They also managed to post about the meme coin from the Twitter account of Guillaume Huin, McDonald’s marketing director.
McDonald’s quickly addressed the issue, apologizing to their fans and stating that they had resolved the problem. Despite the hack, which caused a brief spike in the coin’s market value, the value quickly dropped back down after the posts were deleted. Some traces of the hack reportedly lingered for several hours before being fully removed.
