Kamala Harris May Embrace Pro-Crypto Rhetoric to Garner Voter Support, Vivek Ramaswamy Suggests

As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has speculated that Vice President Kamala Harris might adopt a more crypto-friendly stance to appeal to the digital asset community. During an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday, Ramaswamy suggested that Harris could integrate pro-crypto “verbiage” into her campaign strategy to attract votes from this growing sector.

Ramaswamy’s Insights on Harris and Cryptocurrency

When asked by CNBC reporter Kelly Evans whether Harris might champion the cryptocurrency industry in the lead-up to November, Ramaswamy asserted that her rhetoric would likely evolve to reflect a more favorable view of digital assets. He pointed to the recent actions of Republican nominee Donald Trump, who delivered a highly publicized speech at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville, as evidence of the increasing importance of crypto in the political arena.

Ramaswamy welcomed the possibility of Harris engaging with crypto-related issues, stating, “I think we should want great debate in the marketplace of ideas. Even if she offers a thoughtful digital asset framework or policy – even if I don’t agree with all of it – I think that’ll be a good thing for the country.”

He also issued a challenge to Harris, urging her to clarify her specific views on critical issues affecting the crypto community. “What I challenge Kamala Harris to do is not just cite the pieties and the words – go into detail,” Ramaswamy remarked. He called on her to articulate her stance on topics like the self-custody of digital assets and the future of Gary Gensler as the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), emphasizing that these details could significantly impact voter sentiment.

The Intensifying 2024 U.S. Presidential Race

Ramaswamy’s comments come at a pivotal moment as both leading candidates prepare for the November 2024 election. While Trump has openly supported the blockchain sector, Harris has largely remained silent on her position regarding digital assets. Critics within the crypto community have expressed concerns that her alignment with the Biden administration’s regulatory approach to digital finance might hinder her ability to win over this key demographic.

In the midst of this debate, a new Democratic advocacy group called “Crypto4Harris” is gaining traction. This pro-Harris collective plans to host its first town hall on Wednesday, featuring prominent speakers such as billionaire Mark Cuban, former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, and several influential U.S. lawmakers.

Despite these efforts, Harris faces a challenging road ahead. With only a slight lead over Trump in recent polls, she will need to broaden her appeal to secure a decisive victory in the upcoming election. Embracing a clear and detailed stance on cryptocurrency could be a critical factor in swaying undecided voters.
