In a recent email interview with Politico, billionaire Mark Cuban suggested that Democratic frontrunner and current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris might be “far more open” to emerging technologies, including cryptocurrency, if she becomes the U.S. President.
Kamala Harris: A Potentially Crypto-Friendly Candidate
“The feedback I’m getting, but certainly not confirmed by the VP, is that she will be far more open to business, (artificial intelligence), crypto, and government as a service,” Cuban stated. “Changing the policies changes the message and lets everyone know she is in charge and open, literally, for business.”
This stance contrasts with current U.S. President Joe Biden’s regulatory approach to the blockchain sector. Recent reports indicate that Harris could be more receptive to digital innovation than her predecessor.
Cuban further shared with Decrypt that Harris’ team had reached out with “multiple questions” about cryptocurrency, viewing this as a positive sign.
The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Landscape
Cuban’s remarks come during a tumultuous week for the Democratic Party, as President Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race after one term.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden said in a statement on July 21. “Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”
On the Republican side, Donald Trump has become a vocal advocate for digital assets despite previously expressing skepticism about cryptocurrencies. His campaign accepts crypto contributions, and both he and his wife, Melania, have released NFT collections. Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, has disclosed Bitcoin holdings exceeding $100,000, underscoring the campaign’s pro-crypto stance.
Trump is expected to speak at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville later this week, even after surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
“We are happy to report that Donald Trump is committed to delivering his speech in-person at Bitcoin 2024,” The Bitcoin Conference posted to X following the assassination attempt. “We are proud to host him and to share the solidarity of the global Bitcoin community and our universal commitment to free speech and peaceful democracy.”
It remains unconfirmed whether Kamala Harris will also address the Bitcoin Conference, potentially engaging with crypto-interested voters.
