Ubisoft Joins XPLA Network as Blockchain Validator, Deepening Gaming-Blockchain Integration

Ubisoft, the renowned creator of popular video game franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has officially teamed up with the XPLA network as a node validator, marking a significant move towards intertwining the realms of gaming and blockchain technology.

Announced through XPLA’s Medium page, the collaboration signifies Ubisoft’s proactive stance on blockchain innovation, facilitated by its Strategic Innovation Lab. By assuming the role of a node validator, Ubisoft aims to contribute its extensive game development expertise to ensure the security and efficiency of transactions and data within the XPLA ecosystem.

The partnership holds promise for enriching the XPLA network, renowned for its ambition to become a premier content hub focusing on digital media and gaming. Powered by the Tendermint blockchain engine and its Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus mechanism, the XPLA network hosts popular crypto games such as Summoners War and The Walking Dead.

With Ubisoft onboard as a validator, the network stands to benefit from heightened performance, security, and transparency. The collaboration with other prominent validators and developers like Animoca Brands, Google Cloud, and Com2uS further reinforces XPLA’s position as a robust gaming-oriented blockchain ecosystem.

Beyond its validation role, Ubisoft will also contribute to governance proposal decisions, demonstrating a deeper commitment to shaping the future of the XPLA network. Paul Kim, the lead of the XPLA team, expressed excitement over Ubisoft’s involvement, envisioning a future where their collaboration fosters a more transparent and trustworthy Web3 ecosystem, appealing to players worldwide.

Ubisoft’s journey into the blockchain space traces back to 2018 when it began exploring blockchain games and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), marked by strategic investments and partnerships. In October 2023, Ubisoft expanded its blockchain initiatives by joining the Cronos network as a validator, reinforcing its dedication to NFT gaming exploration.

The company has been a trailblazer in integrating NFTs into major video game titles, exemplified by the introduction of NFT in-game items in “Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.” Partnering with Immutable in November 2023 further underscores Ubisoft’s commitment to pioneering innovative products that redefine gaming experiences and bring digital ownership to players’ hands.

Ubisoft’s active participation as a validator on networks like Tezos and Hedera reflects its ambition to spearhead the convergence of gaming and blockchain technology, reaffirming its position as a leader in the industry’s evolution.
